Dr. Jones’s expertise includes groundwater modeling, decision support, and sustainability. He directed the development of the Groundwater Modeling System (GMS) software which is used by thousands of organizations around the world. His current research is focused on web-enabled modeling and groundwater resource management.

Through his study abroad program to the Dominican Republic, Dr. Nelson developed the first world water project for data sharing that caught the attention of the Group on Earth Observations and has led to much of the current activities with NASA, NOAA, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and the World Bank.

Dr. Ames developed the widely used MapWindow and DotSpatial open source GIS libraries and has been involved in the development of the CUAHSI Hydrologic Information System, HydroShare, HydroDesktop, BASINS, and the Tethys Platform for developing GIS enabled environmental web applications.
