GEOSS
The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) is a voluntary partnership of over 150 governments and international organizations. GEO’s mission is to create a Global Earth Observations Systems of Systems (GEOSS). GEO created a 10 year implementation plan in 2005 to have GEOSS operational in 2015. The system of system allows for a versatile interlinking of various Earth monitoring systems under common technical standards. GEOSS will act as a single access point for users seeking data, imagery and more.
Data available through GEOSS is organized into nine separate categories: Disasters, Health, Energy, Climate, Agriculture, Ecosystems, Biodiversity, Water, and Weather. Focusing on these nine integral areas to people and society will empower the international community to protect itself from natural and human disasters. The integration of these issues avoid duplication and creates significant economic, societal, and environmental benefits.
Brigham Young University efforts to internationalization HydroServer Interactive work hand in hand with GEOSS initiatives. Internationalization of HydroServer Interactive allows organizations across the globe with minimal technical expertise to publish their data online becoming part of the global network of In-situ observations sites. To accomplish this, HydroServer Interactive will allow for simple registration to the GEO DAB for discovery and access. Such capabilities will enable any organization to participate on a global level of data exchange both benefiting and contributing.
